Matching the Set to the Brand: Behind the Scenes with The Caring Beauty Co

A recent studio day for The Caring Beauty Co brought together three models, two makeup artists and a hair stylist for a full beauty campaign shoot. Bigger productions like this come with their own set of challenges, and a few of the decisions behind this one are worth sharing.

Matching the backdrop to the brand

The Caring Beauty Co’s branding uses a warm gradient running from pink through to orange and yellow. Rather than shoot against a standard neutral backdrop and fix the colour in post, that gradient was built directly into the lighting setup on the day. The result is a set of images that feel like an extension of the brand itself rather than a generic studio shoot with a logo added afterwards. It’s a small decision that makes a big difference to how cohesive a final campaign looks once it’s out in the world.

Coordinating a bigger team

Three models, two makeup artists and a hair stylist all working in one space means roles need to be clear. One MUA worked through each model’s natural makeup look in turn, while the second stayed close to the shooting area, keeping an eye on the shots as they came in and making sure everything stayed on track between the makeup area and the set. Having someone dedicated to that handover kept the day moving without anyone standing around waiting.

Keeping everyone in the loop

With this many people involved, everyone needed to see the images as they were shot. The main laptop ran the tethering system, feeding a 27" monitor for the models to check their own shots and a second 27" monitor for the makeup team. An iPad was also connected wirelessly in the makeup area, giving a live feed of every image so touch-ups could be made without anyone needing to leave their station.

The result was a cohesive set of images that tie straight back into The Caring Beauty Co’s branding, shot efficiently despite the size of the team involved.
